Offset slider crank mechanism | Transmission angle | Equations

Offset slider crank mechanism | Transmission angle | Equations

Offset slider crank mechanism transmission angle equations derived using analytical method.
In the below picture shown is an offset slider crank mechanism. L2 is crank length, L3 is coupler length, Slider position is below the crank axis by a distance of e, angle between crank and horizontal axis is theta 2. transmission angle (gamma) is the angle between coupler and vertical axis as shown in the below picture. In the below picture also described the procedure to find transmission angle for any given crank angle theta 2.
Minimum transmission angle occurs when crank angle is 90 degrees and similarly Maximum transmission angle occurs when crank angle is 270 degrees. in the below pictures described the procedure to find minimum and maximum transmission angles.

In the below picture, a problem is solved using Microsoft excel, in which crank length is taken as 30 mm, coupler length 70 mm and offset is 30 mm . In the first column crank angle theta to is taken from zero to 360 degrees at an interval of 15 degrees. In the second column, transmission angle gamma is calculated using the above discussed equation. In the right side graph crank angle is plotted along the horizontal axis and along the vertical axis transmission angle gamma.
